I Heart NYC [clean version]

Day 122 / Mile 15,630

Reno may claim to be the "The Biggest Little City in the World", but New York City could easily take that title. I rolled into town thinking I had about 5 local buddies, and after talking to them I kept hearing more and more familiar names... It turns out I had 17 friends who lived here!

I have to admit, I was getting pretty burnt out on traveling and needed a little break. I knew hanging with some homies, riding my bike around town, and eating tons of pizza was going to recharge my enthusiasm. My couple day stop was now going to be a week or more.

Classic cityscape of the Big Apple.

I really enjoyed how pedestrian friendly the city is. Basically it has to be, the traffic is a death wish.

I chased down this skier in Manhattan, yelled to get his attention, and captured this bitchin moment.

Visiting the 9/11 memorial surfaced emotions I wasn't aware I had. Fear, confusion, pride, hate, and love were all felt at once. It's a powerful place.

Just a beautiful piece of architecture in a park. No big deal, the Washington Square Arch. Actually, I love it.

Here's my good buddy Alex Mertz posing on the other side of the lens. He's a great photographer from AK who just moved to the city, so we went exploring around on bikes for a couple days.

I thought about giving this guy some competition so I could go back to the camera store.

You may remember in 2010 I cofounded a restaurant in Reno, called Pie-Face Pizza Co. After I left the biz, the guys told me they had to change the name because a big franchised Australian meat-pie brand was opening a spot in NY, who was also called "pie face". Well, looks like these jerks couldn't pull it off and the space is now for rent!

Just like that meat-pie bakery, we went to visit some dead dinosaurs at the museum.

We thought we saw one of those skeletons moving, so we went to the GHOSTBUSTERS but the doors was closed... now who ya gonna call??

Our last resort was going to St Patrick's Cathedral to pray for help. The place was under major remodeling and we couldn't be saved...

We went on with our day and climbed up on the roof of a nearby building.

Over near the Brooklyn Bridge is an art installation by Tom Fruin called Kolonihavehus. I snuck inside for this pic while it was unlocked for a couple minutes.

I went to Queens and made a self-portrait here, but liked how I captured this random skateboarder more so.

These photos were over the span of a few days, not showing the night life.  My next post will have that, in the [dirty version].
