The Oregon Trail

On day 28 I made it to the Oregon border, which was at mile 2300 into my cross-country adventure.  Sure you can go up the freeway and rip a straight line through the state, but that ain't my style, ya know.  My last turn in California I burned off the road at WEED; yes there is a town named Weed if you didn't know.  Taking a photo of the town sign was too cliché, so I kept rolling.

This state line statue is amazing.  I hope it's not going to be the best of my tour, I'm looking forward to more creative signs.

Tina (yes I named my van) in her 1st real snow!  We drove up to Crater Lake and she handled great, the front wheel drive on her 5000 pound body stuck to the road.

Even though I was covered in fresh snow, I woke up real cozy in my Ninja Suit.

I got up early to shoot the sunrise, but the clouds spoiled my plan.

After playing in the mountains and snow, I headed towards the ocean to get some more oxygen.  The OR coastline is cold and rugged, but gorgeous.

I'm a sucker for art deco architecture.  Yaquina Bay has an amazing bridge.  I play Frogger in the traffic for this pic.

Day 29, mile 2700.  Lincoln City has a large tide change, and I caught it just right to climb this usually swim-to spot.

When I worked at the summer snowboard camp at Mt Hood, we would come here on our weekends and camp on Cape Kiwanda beach.

Even though when I lived in San Diego 1/4 mile from the beach and had a similar view from my bedroom, this will NEVER get old.

Locals don't really go here anymore, but it became famous for a reason.  They have some funny things on the menu, like a "cock n' balls" shaped creme filled, Cap'n Crunch covered, and my favorite- the Bacon Maple bar.

Luv them Oregon bridges.  This one is aptly name St Johns, because it gives me relief from stress just like St Johns Wart does.

Portland, because it is a big port?  The big waterway means a lot of bridges, and a great sunset with Mt Saint Helens off in the distance.

I picked up my buddy Carey Haider for a little day trip outside the city for some fun.  He had no idea he would be risking his life for a portrait.

We went to Multinomah Falls on an very rare freezing day.  The trail was literally covered in ice, which kept most people at the bottom because you could not walk up this without pulling on the fence.

On the drive back we went along the ridgeline, and experienced the scariest wind I've ever been in.  I thought on a couple turns the gusts were going to knock the van over.  I seriously was white-knuckling the steering wheel.

I had to revisit Timberline on Mt Hood.  I've been in this parking lot probably over 1000 times, and this was the first without a snowboard.

Oregon was fun, especially when you go to buy something and know the exact cost (no sales tax)  or roll into the gas station and they pump your fuel for you.

Going North next, to the birthplace of grunge rock and Starbucks, Washington!
