Stoned in New England

Day 143 / Mile 16,000

After making it out of New York without a trespassing ticket, I headed to the southern area of New England.

*The title of this story refers to the images you're about to see, some of which are structures built of stones and a rock quarry, not based on the affect of smoking marijuana cigarettes. ...well, the one pic of me at the 1st Dunkin Donuts location was taken on 4/20/2015, but still, I'm a square.

A few of my friends from here are self-proclaimed "Massholes".

I pulled off the road to check out this abandoned train, which looks to be the dining cars.

It was all gutted out, nothing to see inside. ...I bet this could be a cool little home if converted right!

There's an old abandoned rock quarry in Becket, which was a nice little hike and could be a great swimming spot in the summer when the water isn't iced over.

Thanks Connecticut. What does this state mean really; it was connected then you cut it?  haha, I'm sure there's a good story to it.

This beautiful stone built building is the Bannerman Castle. It was under renovation when I showed up, kind of a bummer, I wanted to see the interior.

This structure was a picnic shelter, complete with cat statues.

I just barely went over the border to this next spot, knowing I'd be traveling back through when heading West after hitting Maine.

I drove 15 miles through the woods, and got BLOCKED. Luckily I had my bike to go the next 5 miles to the destination.

The Stairway to Heaven, that was to the entrance of Madame Sherri's castle. This is all that remains out in the middle of the Madame Sherri Forest.

I found out about a cool midcentury school with a great unique architecture. I looked it up, even seeing the structure on google maps satellite view. ...but yeah, it just got demolished right before I got there.

Oh well, I got this artsy picture out of the trip. Looks like the tractor driver had some fun with an abandoned car.

Close by was this rusty old playground. I haven't seen a slide like this in a long time, the liability rules these days make this far to dangerous for children to use.

You know why you rarely come across a seesaw these days?? It's because schools don't want to offend weight-challenged students.

Next stop, heading up to the last corner of my adventure, Maine. Lots of excitement about getting a proper Lobstah Roll!
