Big Sur Yes Sir

You knew my previous story wouldn't be the last. It was only a matter of time before I needed to get my fix again. ...the addiction to adventure is real.

For the past few weeks I've been staying around Encinitas. It's been nice hanging in a familiar scene and also getting some much needed exercise on the bike, the atrophy of sitting so much has ruined my strength. Not much else has changed since I left nearly a year ago; many of the locals have the same haircut, the dating pool is still shallow, Captain Keenos is still a great dive, and the surfers talk about how radical they are. Well, there are a couple new things: the homeys at Wedge & Lever expanded their office, Metajive relocated to Encinitas, The Black Atlas has some great new stuff, and fellow vagabond Kyle Schwartz has been around surfing. I haven't really missed out on much, and apparently many of my friends haven't missed me either, for getting people to hang out was way more challenging than a simple invite. I suppose most of them follow my Instagram and had no need to catch up- millennial problems.

After a while I started getting uncomfortable staying in just one area. Even though a couple friends offered their couch, I didn't want to take up their space for too long and would revert back to my rolling apartment. I all of a sudden felt like that dude "living in a van down by the river", and don't like it. The solution to fix this was to rent a room or get back on the road. In San Diego I had a couple freelance photoshoots that kept me busy, but nothing consistent so I decided to go visit family in the Bay Area. Instead of taking the boring straight direction up the interstate, Hwy 1 along the coastline through Big Sur was the best route.

[Since I've been back, my resumé has been getting littered across the nation. I've submitted it to brands far and wide, soliciting my marketing/advertising, photography, & other creative services. One brand brought me to Kansas City for an interview, but I'm still searching until it's for sure. So if you have an inside scoop on a job opportunity, please pass along my info or email me: robbie@robbiesell.com]

I've been here before, though took another opportunity to fine tune a few more photographs for a potential book cover.

I don't know what's in the currents here that makes the water so beautiful, but I love it.  To turn up the contrast, I put on a circular polarizing filter to deepen the blues of the water and remove any reflection. #RealFilter ; )

When looking for a place to camp the first night, I found a buddy rolling this insane Synchro rig. The next morning I went for a heavy bike ride up Nacimiento Rd, climbing nearly 4000' in 8 miles. The ride back down almost burned out my brakes!

During a brief part of the year, the earth aligns so the sun sets directly behind this keyhole. I'll be back in a few months for that one if you want to join.

I've shot this bridge a number of times and wanted to find a new view on it, so I braved the poison oak.

About a 1000' descent from the roadway along a primitive trail is this beautiful rocky scene. The fisheye view doesn't do it justice, that crazy cliff is about 400' straight down.

Now in the Bay Area, I'm building a strategy on how to best produce this book. Since my wallet is empty, a kickstarter campaign may be the best option, unless there's a publisher out there willing to take a chance? If you have any advice, please send me an email.
